Rolling Stones - Music Videos from Blue & Lonesome

MusicTelevision.Com presents music videos from the Rolling Stones album, Blue & Lonesome

It does not get any cooler than this... The Rolling Stones latest album titled Blue & Lonesome, named after a song by one of the Rolling Stones' own idols, Little Walter, is their first in over a decade. They give beautiful tribute to the music of their roots doing an all covers abum of the music that influenced the Rolling Stones sound and their lives. Produced by Don Was, they had set out to do an original album, but changed course after recording some loose jam sessions. They made what Ron Wood and Don Was said is a "crude & authentic" album.

The first video, a song originally By Eddie Taylor titled Ride 'Em All Down, features actress Kristin Stewart. The video was directed by François Rousselet and produced by Natalie Arnett. Both the producer and the director are with Riff Raff Films of London.

The Rolling Stones - Ride 'Em On Down

The music video below was directed by Julian Gibbs of Intro, a production house in the United Kingdom. The director's company website wrote the following about the video:
‘Hate To See You Go’ was originally recorded by Little Walter, one of the key blues musicians defining the original Chicago Blues sound. The first harp player to employ the use of a small microphone to amplify his harmonica thus giving it that distinctive electric sound, more reverb, more volume, a new distorted power cutting through just like a guitar.

We wanted to reflect this powerful, electrified sound in the film - a gathering storm seemed the natural metaphor for Mick’s moody, sustained harmonica work.

Rolling black clouds and multiple lightning strikes sit effortlessly alongside Keith and Ronnie’s insistent riffing. The Stone’s storm driven performance is infused by alternative blinking snapshots of the whole spectrum of inner city struggle. And the image of the city and its people engulfed by a raging storm feels like an integral component of the sound, epic, gritty and huge - just like the Stones.

Samantha Preis - Lost for Me

MusicTelevision.Com presents Samantha Preis and her music video to Lost for Me

Here is a song that is a little bit like a nursery rhyme and a lot like a dream. A emerging independent artist named Samantha Preis created a eerily captivating original song titled Lost For Me. Her voice is so sensitive and fragile sounding, filled with emotions of memories as if it's "the end" or something as deep. It is a stellar delivery of a song that I prefer to hear turned up before simply closing my eyes to lay back and listen. But the video and the artist is beautiful to look at too. It appears that this may be her first real music video. If you are like me, you will listen and watch this more than once and it may grow on you. For all music supervisors tuning in, consider this as a soundtrack for the right feature film. Enjoy! GC

More from Gaby Moreno

MusicTelevision.Com presents Gaby Moreno

Gaby Moreno played two recent shows in LA and New York to allow fans to preview songs from her upcoming September 2016 release of her next album titled Ilúsion. (NOTE: Since this article was originally posted, Ilusion has been released. See videos here)

I was lucky enough to hear about these shows and get tickets for her LA appearance, which was at a venue right on the edge of Downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row. As our Lyft driver got us to the venue, I flashed back almost 30 years when I noticed my old work space where I did music promotion out of at 5th & Towne. Back then I had wondered if Skid Row would ever change. But, the depth of hard times and sadness seems to be just as hard as it ever was, if not harder than it ever seemed, as we drove past piles of trash, tents on the sidewalk and homeless people aimlessly pushing shopping carts. A lot of them looking like they were jonesing. It doesn't seem to me that times have gotten better for the poorest of the poor in LA. In fact, it looks to be worse than ever! More focus is needed to help these people who have somehow landed in this situation.

Around the corner a few blocks away, it has changed. There is an Urth Caffe (a stellar boutique chain of coffee house/restaurants) sitting right next door to beautiful music venue known as Resident. The outdoor food and cocktail court at Resident provides a sweet spot to chat with friends, eat and drink before the show begins inside. This might just be the coolest small music venue in LA, just the right place to see this darling artist named Gaby Moreno.

Gaby's sang songs in English, Spanish and Spanglish. Her group was small with bass, drums, a guitarist and Gaby on vocals and guitar. Her voice is so unique, smokey with her own trademark soul that transcends or combines genres, that it's hard to describe or pigeon hole her as anything except as beautiful.

While there are no recordings available of the new record online yet, it is very well worth digging through her earlier works and live performances such as the recordings below and others we have featured on this network.

This first one is of Gaby sweetly performing in Spanish, the classic Mexican huapango-style song titled Cucurrucucú Paloma. Written about lovesickness, it was originally written by Tomás Méndez in 1954. The title is a reference to the sound of the dove calling.

Gaby Moreno - Cucurrucucú Paloma

The next song below is of Gaby singing one of my favorite songs of her's in English. It's a protest song that she wrote, which is perfect, because Gaby does and always has marched to the beat of her own drum. It's a call to not give in or sell out, keeping fire in the belly and not to let other people paint one blue. It's titled "Sing Me Life".

Gaby Moreno - New Album Titled Ilusión

MusicTelevision.Com presents Gaby Moreno

The fabulous international recording artist and the Latin Grammy winner in the Best New Artist category, Gaby Moreno, has a new album titled Ilúsion coming out soon. She is performing two "Ilúsion Record Preview" shows, one at Resident in Los Angeles on June 14th 2016 (click here for tickets), and another in New York at Joe's Pub on June 16th, 2016 (click here for tickets). A definite to do!.  (NOTE: Since this article was originally posted, Ilusion has been released. See videos here)

Don't let the Latin Grammy win pigeonhole her as a strictly Latin artist. She has a very broad English and Spanish repertoire that crosses genres and eras. She is a wonderful blues, rock and soul artist.

Whilst none of the new material from the Ilúsion album has been released as of yet, just below are some handpicked videos and live performances from previous years.

The first video below is from NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series and it's lovely! She performs three of her songs titled No Regrets, Ave Que Emigra and Sing Me Life. She is accompanied by Adam Levy. Enjoy! GC

JJ Grey & Mofro - Brave Lil Fighter (featuring Boston Ballet dancer, Lia Cirio)

MusicTelevision.Com presents music videos from the JJ Grey & Mofo album titled Ol' Glory

Just below is the most recent music video by the major globetrotting indie act, JJ Grey & Mofro, off JJ's 2015/2016 album titled Ol' Glory. Directed by Brendan "Spookie" Daly, the video features a stunning Boston Ballet dancer named Lia Cirio dancing through the streets of Boston.

JJ's voice is as soulful as it always has been, and at moments seems to channel some Buddy Miles and then some classic Tom Jones in other moments. But that is not to say JJ Grey is emulating anyone. He's not. He's a true original. A great funky soul & blues story teller. Enjoy! GC

Wynonna & The Big Noise

Music Television presents Wynonna & The Big Noise

Curb Records recording artist Wynonna Judd is a historic country music figure whose latest record, based on the number of YouTube views, seems kind of under the radar for an artist of such legendary status. But it's certainly not for a lack of soulful country character.

This album is a very big deal for Wynonna and her husband, drummer, bandmate and the album's producer, Cactus Moser. Cactus spent a long time recovering from a motorcycle crash that occurred in 2012 shortly after they were married. The crash left him with an amputated lower leg and a shattered hand. He recovered, bucking doctor's predictions and is solidly back to playing, as well as producing. Wynonna and Cactus dated in the 1980s and they go back a long way, but the accident brought them together stronger in ways that only tough times can.

It has been 13 years since Wynonna recorded a record of non cover songs. She managed to avoid doing the new record to match the short term whims and supposed tastes of today's demographics, but instead wrote and sang songs that are honest reflections of her place in life with all of the ups and downs she has experienced.

The recordings, as well as the music videos, are wonderfully organic with old school written all over them. It was recorded live in her home/farm studio with all vintage gear using her regular band and a few special guests (not typical session musicians often play on recordings for big acts) and it's worthy of garnering lots of love from fans who manage to hear it. All of the players make it as tasty as tasty gets. Cactus makes it happen with his prosthetic leg and rehabilitated hand with the custom stick holder. The happiness and contentness of how they went about making the record shows in some of their expressions in the video, where they all seem to be in a great head space.

Fans will want to grab tickets to her domestic U.S. shows stretching from May through December 2016 by visiting her tour page. Enjoy! GC

SHEL - Rooftop

MusicTelevision.Com presents SHEL

Literally, one of the most dynamic, original and organic groups on the planet is this quartet of ladies known as SHEL.

Down below is their latest music video to their song titled Rooftop which is part of their upcoming 2016 album titled Just Crazy Enough.

Music Television presents SHEL - Just Crazy Enough

For those not yet familiar with SHEL, it's a group a four sisters (Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza) who long ago tapped into their individual musical genius and then onto their collective genius' as they began to create a great organic band with real instrumentation and sweet voices and brilliant harmonies (with no auto-tune and very little (if any) production necessary) backed by their impeccable musical poetry and arranging skills. Their studio recordings are in direct alignment as to how they sound when they perform live. And they nail their stuff live, as is evidenced in earlier live and studio recordings which you will find at the links at the bottom of this page. They are truly badass!

I first heard the group by way of Eva who had made a friend request on Ron Paul's official MySpace page during the 2007-2008 presidential election cycle. I personally ran the page on Congressman Paul's behalf and when I noticed Eva's friend request accompanied by a photo of her leaning on a musical instrument case in a Chaplinesque pose, there was something about her... that little thing that made me go "hmmmm?"

I browsed her page and quickly learned that she was a truly inspired artist with this amazing sense of light as if she were the world's greatest photographer with this grand sense of poetry, irony, tragedy mixed into all the mediums she works in.

After doing a little digging, I ended up on the telephone with Eva's mother from their farm in Colorado and before I knew it I was having a conversation with Eva and getting emails from her with mp3's of some amazing music that she personally wrote. Not long after that I learned that she was part of something bigger! And that was and still is SHEL.  At the time (2007-2008), I was the sole overseer of Eric Clapton's official MySpace page, and I had the priviledge of organizing Clapton's Top Friends List. Next to various legends, I would handpick and feature young lesser known acts of substance to try to give them a little exposure. I added SHEL to the list. Fans picked up on it and loved them to the max :)

It is now almost a decade later and the group is still constantly creating and traveling in non-stop work mode. They write, they record, they gig, they tour and they shoot and ultimately tell stories through their always evolving music video repertoire. In their own original way, they seem to be influenced by and often seem to be channeling energy from T.S. Elliot and greats like Charlie Chaplin and groups like Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin. Their videos which are more like little films put them into a category that transcends music and catapults them into being more like multi-media artists, actors and filmmakers. They are the real deal, the genuine article. Although they had an amazing sound and vision 8 years ago and I still love hearing and seeing their earliest work, where they are now did not happen overnight. These are four ladies who have really been paying their dues for a major portion of their lives and it shows in everything they do. Enjoy! GC

David Bowie's farewell music video performance

David Bowie Lazarus New York Theatre Workshop poster

This morning, after I read in the NY Times that Bowie was to appear at a star studded music event in his honor, I got online and read that David Bowie had died since that paper was printed. My first thought was the online headline of his death was a hoax, but I type this realizing that is a long shot. He had cancer.

Having seen his music video to his song titled Lazarus (featured below) just days before his death, he could not have timed the release more perfectly.

He was a true original artist who made the world of music and music inspired film more vast and beautiful.

He theatrically infused his music so well, often playing the role of a unigender, making it cool to be different, while leaving some to wonder if he was gay, straight, bi or what. He pushed that envelope at a time when people with trans gender desires were not so free to be.

He was and will always be a symbol and an icon of coolness for generations of people who strive to be uniquely true to themselves.

His love at first sight marriage with Iman put him in another league of cool.

The elder statesman of the high art side of music has moved on to another dimension, yet again. Farewell Mr. Bowie. Hope you are having a spectacular flight. GC

Just below, the first two music videos are his most recent genius works tied to, Lazarus, his off-Broadway musicald running through January 19, 2015 at the New York Theatre Workshop.
