One of the fastest rising stars who has practically hit the top, Lianne La Havas has done it all so far with musical substance and without hype. I write practically, because she will be pushing higher what the top means. Lianne's live shows are fantastic. She can sing all by her lonesome with just her guitar, captivating everyone in the room. And with her band, it's another incredible high to listen and watch. Catch her if you can. She has that thing known as "it".
Below is her the latest from Lianne La Havas in her two part film titled Elusive & Gone.
Received Bob Lefsetz' mailbag e-mail this morning and read the letter (down below) from Terry Ellis, co-founder of Chrysalis Records and a producer tied to way too many great records to name including my favorite Jethro Tull album titled Aqualung. Terry wrote to Bob about Alvin Lee who just passed away recently. He referenced Alvin with Ten Years After at Woodstock. Had to revisit this excellent take. Enjoy!

Bob,
When Alvin Lee walked on the stage of a small UK blues club in 1967 in his trademark clogs, blonde locks and dramatic good looks and began to play that red Gibson with the peace symbol sticker, fingers flying across the frets, you just knew you were in the presence of a star.
Ultimately millions agreed as Ten Years After stole the show at the UK's Sunbury Jazz and Blues Festival in 1968 and later, as, for many, Alvin became the face of Woodstock after the movie was released in 1970.
Alvin was a warm man, with a ready smile and an easy sense of humor to go with those flying fingers.
As an aspiring musician in England, Alvin entrusted his life and career to two recent University graduates, still wet behind the ears! In doing so, Alvin helped put in place the first building block of a business which became known as Chrysalis.
Chris Wright and I will always be grateful.
Alvin left us far too early and we will miss him,
Terry

Fresh out of the U.K., soul divas Terri Walker and Nicole Wray created a new duo that they call Lady. Below is the official music video for song #4 titled "Get Ready" on their self titled album. The song has a thick old school sound that grooves for days. Enjoy!
I love artists who can sit down with an instrument and sing their asses off with little or no pomp and circumstance. Susan Calloway delivers that in this most excellent live performance of her original song titled Chasin The Sun. First saw this video below a few years ago and I still love to crank it up regularly and ponder her words that reflect on that dose of reality dreamers with big ideas are faced with as they are often kicked to the curb, but manage to get up again and keep going. Whether one loves the song or not, it's a song with legs that keeps selling and selling and selling in good numbers for any artist, indie or major. She may not yet be a household name in America, but she is organically growing a strong international following by traveling and playing shows around the world.
