JJ Grey & Mofro is Funkier than Funky!

Here is a creative music video directed by Spookie Daly for the Alligator Records act, JJ Grey & Mofro and his song titled On Fire from his album titled Orange Blossoms.

JJ Grey generally delivers songs and music videos that a little different from each other. This video consists of a very funky song with Barbie and Ken dolls as the actors in the music video.

Trixie Whitley

Trixie Whitley, MusicTelevision.Com, Music Television, Photo by Greg Chamberlain

A girl walking with emotionally sensitive depth in the now, Trixie Whitley does it her way. Her music is grounded in authenticity so rare in this age of manufactured talent shows and misguided stardom. Whitley's pure soul is so deep it transcends & forgets genres, in her minimalist state with just her and her guitar or piano, or with a full band and/or studio recording.

Favorite recordings of Ms. Whitley's may indeed be her raw unpolished live takes with one mic and a guitar. They kill you every time with her uncontrived way of laying it down that takes listeners all the way there to feel it. But her studio versions are masterful works, such as this one below.  It is definitely one of the top new videos of 2012, if not THE top new video for those who seek not the most popular. but most soulful., It's been spinning on repeat for the entire month, both the live and studio versions of the same song. GC

Trixie Whitley - Breathe You In My Dreams (Directed by Anton Coene)

Without ever seeing the above video, as when I first heard a stripped down version song off her album of live recordings, I fell in love with it immediately, not knowing it's a live recording until hearing the applause at the end, made it even more appetizing, because one realizes this is as raw as it gets and it's a most beautiful performance. Below is one of those typical live raw live performances... although the recording seems to be raw and unpolished from a camera mic, she transcends the sonic limitations.

Ayo - I'm Gonna Dance

I will never forget the first time I heard Ayo and how stoked I was. I posted her song titled Life is Real on MusicLoad: http://www.musicload.com/2009/02/ayo-life-is-real.html and to this day still can't get enough of this artist.

She is from Lagos Nigeria, but has lived all over the world including Germany, France, the U.S. and other places.

Her repertoire of songs is vast with a great many of them being tear jerking ballads. She comes off as being very sensitive, usually laying her heart out on the table.

This video and song below was released in France by her label and never was promoted in the U.S. The director of the video was Pietro Di Zanno.

The song is a departure from her more sensitive ballads and songs. It's a grooving pop song that, because perhaps of the range she sings in and some of the phrasing, conjures up thoughts of early Michael Jackson when he was part of the Jackson 5. Enjoy!  GC

Nneka is one of the most important rising artists to hear and watch, now and into the future. In having conversations with her once when she was in LA, came to realize how deeply thoughtful Nneka is in terms of truth, love, justice for all mankind from heavy issues like political corruption, crony capitalism that exposes itself as corporatist ruination of resource centers. Nneka being from Lagos, Nigeria in the oil rich Niger Delta region of Africa, is all to familiar with life's harsh realities for those in her homeland. The gulf of Mexico oil spill the U.S. faced in 2010 is really, truly nothing.... compared to decades of such never ending raping and pillaging of the Lagos region by global energy cartels.

Nneka never names names of the crooks, the corrupt politicians that she often alludes to in her music. But if one digs deep into her music and play her songs dozens of times, like true fans do, one peels off the layers that exposes Nneka's depth.

She is only one of a small handful of artists with a most powerful global sound who sings about many things important. That's why she is one to watch, for those who seek to think for revolutionary change for the betterment of not only one's own country, but the world. GC

Theresa Andersson - Inspired loop genius and much more...

This first song is the one that put Theresa Andersson on the MusicTelevision.Com map several years ago. Using creative techniques to loop her voice into layers of harmonies along with drum and guitar sounds, Ms. Andersson and her one woman band has an inspired & contagious sound that transcends this grainy fixed angle webcam style video & low-fi audio recording. This is all live, with no overdubs or post production... right in her own New Orleans kitchen. Enjoy! GC

Theresa Andersson - Birds Fly Away

Avery Sunshine

Music Television presents Avery Sunshine

Here is what we mean when we think someone's music has that "it" thing:

Just below is a classic video clip of a rising artist known as Avery*Sunshine when she was working out her song titled I've Got Sunshine. This simple one or two mic recording in a rehearsal room and shot on one fixed angle camcorder captures the true essence of Ms. Sunshine: Her songwriting process, her soul and her inspired and true indie spirit. The studio version of the song has had success on influential radio stations worldwide and we were happy to even hear the studio version being piped in while sunning on the pool deck at Loews Hotel. Top hotels are now known as top curators of music to create the right vibe for their guests. So, that is a feather in Sunshine's cap.

Amy Winehouse Classics

Music Television presents Amy Winehouse on Later With Jools Holland

It's been just over a year since Amy Winehouse passed away. Her music will never die.

I will never forget the first time I heard Amy Winehouse in 2002/2003 by way of a free download that was made available on either download.com/mp3.com for her track entitled Stronger Than Me. Had never heard of her before that fateful download and was blown away by her sound and knew she had that undeniable "it thing". Not long after that, as she was just breaking out, she ended up performing live on Later with Jools Holland, the BBC music show hosted by Squeeze keyboardist Jools Holland. The first video below is of that live performance, with no lip syncing. She completely blew people away. She was a real singer that emitted the most incredible sensuality in the most classic soulful way, complete with well placed tasty jazz progressions, horns and perfect nuance. GC

Sandhy Sondoro

Sandhy Sondoro is a tasty international artist from Indonesia who has lived in many countries of the world as a performing/working musician and recording artist. This first song below almost sounds like it's starting off in English, but is actually being sung in Indonesian. Sandhy fluently speaks and has recorded many songs in English as in the second video. Whilst he has become a important name in Indonesian music (signed to Sony Music Indonesia) and has a strong following in Germany and some markets in the EU, he has a ways to go before he is a well known name in the U.S.A., but he has the potential to impress a wide audience. He covers a few genres. Some of his songs emit a soul that reminds a little of Michael McDonald, John Melencamp and an occasional hint of Tracy Chapman. He is not ripping them off or anything like that, he is all original, but he hits a certain soul vein. Enjoy! GC

Particularly dig this recording of Sandhy performing his original song live on Indonesian TV, singing in English where he shows what a real soulful cat he is, simply sitting on a stool with a acoustic guitar and crooning his ass off with no pomp or circumstance.

I just came across another one of his latest videos which he breaks from his usual pattern of being a one man band running loops, being a beatbox and playing multiple guitars all while singing his ass off. In this live performance video, he simply sits down at the piano and sings.

Almost Gone - The Ballad of Bradley Manning - By Graham Nash & James Raymond

Connect direct with Graham Nash at GrahamNash.Com

Below is the story about the song and the video and Bradley Manning
A companion video for "Almost Gone" -- a new song by legendary singer-songwriter Graham Nash and musician James Raymond (son of David Crosby) -- was released in December 2011 in support of accused U.S. Army whistleblower Bradley Manning.

The release was timed to Manning's first judicial hearing scheduled for December 16th 2011, the day before Bradley Mannings 24th birthday, following his more than 17-months in custody, including a year in solitary confinement that Amnesty International has characterized as "harsh and punitive."

Visually, the Almost Gone video is punctuated with bold graphics, disturbing images and harsh facts. The Bradley Manning Support Network has named the following day, December 17, its International Day of Solidarity (http://events.bradleymanning.org/). PFC Manning, an Army intelligence analyst who had been stationed near Baghdad, was arrested in May 2010 under suspicion of leaking classified information, including a video showing the killing of civilians, to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.

Nash and Raymond composed the song "Almost Gone (The Ballad of Bradley Manning)" during this spring's US tour of Crosby-Nash, and the new recording serves as the music bed for the video; it features an impassioned lead vocal by Nash, a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted (Crosby, Stills & Nash, and The Hollies). "Bradley Manning is a hero to me," he sings, acknowledging Manning's role in making public videos and documents that shed light on such as issues as the true number and cause of civilian casualties in Iraq, human rights abuses by U.S.-funded contractors and foreign militaries, and the role that spying and bribes play in international diplomacy.

Please watch these addition videos to fill in the blanks on Bradley Manning and his predicament.

Classic - Peter Frampton - Live on Midnight Special (1975)

When Peter Frampton hit big with Frampton Comes Alive, a dual vinyl album, he might have been one of the top 10 coolest things in America at the time. Ruby Jane

This is the one of the latest tracks from a independent album from the young indie artist named Ruby Jane. She is the real deal. In a world of fakes and pop star poseurs, Ruby Jane has consistently always bucked the trends, maintaining her own Americana style authenticism without any overproduction. In fact, her mantra appears to be underproduction in terms of her recordings. Her songs may make you forget where you are and suck you in long enough to pause and reflect, deeply. Her sound is slightly in the vein of Mazzy Star and CocoRosie, but Ruby Jane not attempting to emulate anyone. She has been at it, playing the fiddle/violin, guitar and singing early on in her youth. At 18, she is a up & coming artist, but she's been playing lots of gigs and has proven she will be around as a strong indie force, if not a major one, for years to come. Enjoy! Peace Love Groove, GC

Came across AWOLNATION quite a while back through a friend which led me to see videos of the song being used for other peoples short films before I ever saw the official video by AWOLNATION. Perhaps my favorite take was of the flying man, Jeb Corliss and his "Grinding The Crack" video, which is first up below, followed by the official video, then followed by one more unofficial fan made video. The song is great and all three videos are pretty darned cool. Enjoy! GC

Monophonics - There's A Riot Going On

The latest music video from the funky San Francisco soul band: Monophonics covering a song written by Sly Stone.

The band's website describes their latest album titled In Your Brain: “.... In Your Brain sits on the fuzzy psych side of soul and funk. Paying homage to innovators of psychedelic soul such as Sly Stone, Norman Whitfield and Funkedelic’s George Clinton...."

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Run Through The Jungle

We (the U.S.A.) are still at it. Wars. At least we call them wars. But, the supposed enemy doesn't even wear a uniform. The thing that unifies why they fight us is that we are on their land. They don't need a uniform. But they will use whatever tools they have access to make us want to leave. Isn't that their right, to protect their homeland? Doesn't that make them patriots and not terrorists or insurgents, as our government and news reporters often call them? In my humble opinion, U.S. Military occupation is a form of terrorism. The only difference between military terrorism and suicide terrorism is the weaponry: conventional military grade vs. non-conventional homemade that might include martyrdom. But, if one thinks about it.... many of the kids who join our military are prepared to be martyrs themselves. We must put ourselves in the shoes of those countries whom we attack, invade and occupy. We have never walked in those shoes. We have only been attacked. American has never been invaded and occupied. And the attacks we have suffered have been lightweight, in comparison to what havoc the U.S. has wreaked upon those in far away lands. Wake up U.S.A. and attempt to wear the shoes of the falsely painted enemy.

When I listen to artists such as John Fogerty and groups like Creedence Clearwater Revival, I flash back to when music was a bit more radical and a lot of rockers and other artists were deeply against lame U.S. wars. More artists should stand up, today, and say it like it is.

Dead Sara

first heard Dead Sara by way of the Sunset Sessions and stumbled upon this bookmark I saved a couple of years back. Thought and still think the leader of this band rocks. She transcends the crappy recording and jiggly video. This particular recording was made in December of 2007. Enjoy! Peace Love Groove, GC
