Lianne La Havas + Prince and some tasty songs :)

Lianne La Havas is working with Prince

If you are already a fan of Lianne's, you'll be glad to know that the artist, formerly and presently known as Prince, sought her out to be part of one of his projects/bands, 3rd Eye Girl, to do some secret concerts.  Prince did a press conference at Lianne's house of all places!  The details are all very mysterious, but something cool is brewing, that is for sure.

Was it heartbreak or an ex-boyfriend that drove Lianne La Havas to pick up that now famous second hand guitar, find herself and write songs from her heart? If so, the man who broke her heart should be thanked!  For, even while in abstentia, he is at least partially responsible for helping generate such great musical artistry.

Her impeccable original song stylings and voice are beautiful. Her unique guitar picking and strumming is part of her originality that is inspiring many guitarists who happen upon her sound. She is still way too under the radar in my opinion, but she really has got a majorly loyal and solid international fan base that keeps growing organically.

She writes the vast majority of her song repertoire and only rarely does an occasional cover, quite beautifully I must say.  See the great live cover song by Lianne at the In The Woods Barn Session in the 6th video  below where she covers a song by Little Dragon titled Twice.

In describing Lianne La Havas, Beautiful is a word that cannot be overly emphasized here on every level from her music, to her poise, to her genuine authenticity.

Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough?

Here is a live take and scaled down version of the song above, "Is Your Love Big Enough". It's just Lianne singing with her guitar and Joss Stone sitting next to her grooving out on the French TV show TARATATA. Lianne La Havas is an inspired artist with "it".

Music Television presents Amy Winehouse on Later With Jools Holland

I will never forget the first time I heard Amy Winehouse in 2002/2003 by way of a free download that was made available on either download.com/mp3.com for her track entitled Stronger Than Me. Had never heard of her before that fateful download and was blown away by her sound and knew she had that undeniable "it thing". Not long after that, as she was just breaking out, she ended up performing live on Later with Jools Holland, the BBC music show hosted by Squeeze keyboardist Jools Holland. The first video below is of that live performance, with no lip syncing. She completely blew people away. She was a real singer that emitted the most incredible sensuality in the most classic soulful way, complete with well placed tasty jazz progressions, horns and perfect nuance.

Amy Winehouse - Stronger Than Me (Filmed Live Performance)

This first song I ever heard Amy Winehouse do was Stronger Than Me. It was offered as free promotional download on music.download.com in 2002/2003 and was a rougher demo version than the album version. It was so beautiful, I melted each time I listened and must of played it hundreds of times. Been digging through my old drives looking for that old version.

This video below is the best version of this song I could find so far, thanks to one of the best music shows on the planet, Later with Jools Holland out of the U.K. on the BBC. Jools is a former member of Squeeze. Remember Squeeze's song titled Pulling Muscles from a Shell?

I love this recording, below, very much. It was early in Winehouse's career before she got carried away with tattoos, the drugs and the booze. She stands there, sexy as can be, delivering the goods, singing her ass off and nailing some very sweet guitar voicings on her Stratocaster. It was obvious genius in the making. Enjoy! (Gregory J. Chamberlain)
