The rapper known as Brother Ali lays it down with glaring reality. It's a public service announcement to not drink the Cool-Aid. His opening words to his now classic song titled Uncle Sam Goddamn: "Welcome to the United Snakes, Home of the thief, Home of the slave..." is how he starts off the beginning of his portrayal of a flawed electorate and the related truths of U.S. Government Policy. He raps down layers of tongue lashings at the government as well as the voter.
Brother Ali borrowed ideas for his own Uncle Sam Goddamn from Nina Simone, making the song sort of a tribute to the late great artist. In fact, there the last second of the video features Ali wearing a Nina Simone t-shirt. Lyrically, her borrowed her line: "A show tune, but the show hasn't been written for it yet." Simone's song titled Mississippi Goddamn was written by her in 1964 as a protest song that was banned in several southern states.
A talented rapper who is a facebook acquaintance by the name of Omu Gnom has consistently been turning me onto interesting music from multiple Romanian artists and groups. All of his posts are in Romanian and have no clue what he is saying. This was on his Facebook page today. I'm still trying to figure the details on who is who on the lineup and the official pages. Always wish there was some English subtitles happening.

Heard the rapper known as Bliz for the first time, yesterday, after becoming acquainted with Redd Pen Media after they introduced themselves. Dug through Redd Penn's numerous music videos and when I heard this Bliz track entitled Transition. The song made me think hard about life's harsh realities and wonder how life can end up that way. Bliz lays down so many rhymes that are so true, such as "Guess you can't say if you ain't never been, man..."
It's a testiment to the reality of thug life and the prison industrial complex. I can't help but think and feel: "There for but the grace of God go I" when I hear a rap like this. It's thought provoking, but hopefully not provoking kids to reach for this. Enough of that already! Kudos to Bliz for his well done delivery. Hopefully he's just acting. Kudos to the director, Juan Ortiz, for the outstanding light & photography.
