The raw talent of Bernhoft

I found out about the fabulous Jarle Bernhoft three years ago. Thanks goes former Exposé vocalist Kelly Moneymaker for the introduction. Bernhoft is fresh, organic and unmanufactured. He has been honing his craft, touring the world and emerging for years.

When Bernhoft isn't just singing in front of a piano like in the first video, he becomes a self contained one man band, that relies on loops he lays down with his voice and with instruments as he goes as narrated in the 2nd and 3rd videos below. His soulful and deliberate croon is contagious and entertaining. Enjoy!

This is the first time Beyonce has ever been mentioned here, and it is not to feature Beyonce herself. It is to feature a wonderful young jazz artist named Nikki Yanofsky of Montreal, Canada. Nikki has a long history of singing classic jazz standards of legends like Ella Fitzgerald. In 2006, at age 12, she became the youngest artist to ever headline at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Most recently, now age 20, Nikki has been making music that crosses over into pop, produced by Quincy Jones. (See additional links below). Below are just a handful of excellent full length songs and very tasty performances pulled from the Eric Clapton's most recent Crossroads Guitar Festival of 2013. In fact, the DVD's from each of the four Crossroads Guitar Festivals held so far are all incredibly well done and worth the watching time and time again. Eric Clapton handpicks phenomenal upcoming as well as well established greats, the best of the best, to share the stage with he and his musical peers.

The first festival was in 2004 and has occurred every three years through to 2013 so far. The festival benefits the The Crossroads Centre, Antigua. The centre was founded by Eric Clapton in 1997 to provide quality, affordable treatment for alcohol and other drug dependencies to a community that greatly needed, but lacked such a facility. This 32-bed centre, located on the island of Antigua, has become recognized as an international Centre of Excellence for addiction treatment.

Unfortunately, it never was released by her record label at that time it was made. That song has that elusive "it" thing and is one of those great timeless hidden gems. Depending upon your mood and life experience, this song may take you up, down or all around. The video, which was directed by Mikki Willis as a film festival submission, is a work of art and one of the finest all around music videos of it's kind.

Cree Summers is at least partially of North American/Canadian Indian heritage and did grow up for at least some of her life on a Indian Reservation which makes her lyrics authentic, believable and special to ponder.

Formerly broadcast on TNN (The Nasville Network), this documentary below titled The Life and Times of The Everly Brothers is a worthwhile viewing for those who want to learn more about the legendary music duo made up of brothers Don and Phil Everly. The documentary is filled with comments by Frankie Avalon, Peter Asher, Warren Zevon, Waddy Wachtel, Ted Everly (cousin), Jason Everly (Phil's son), Chet Atkins, Felice Bryant (songwriter), Snuff Garrett (record producer) and Ron Coleman (bass player).

As we hit the end of 2013, we have spent these final weeks planning what 2014 is going to be about.

What is the plan for Music Television exactly?

This channel and it's affilates such as The Indies, MusicLoad, The Quiet Storm, and Classic Music Television is about genuine authentic artists who we have focused on year after year... Artists like Gaby Moreno, who this year was finally recognized as "Best New Artist" when she won that Latin Grammy in 2013. And, this channel is about artists of substance like Nneka, perhaps the closest thing to a modern day living female Bob Marley. And Trixie Whitley, whose song Breathe You In My Dreams should be considered song of the year by any and all music organizations worth a darn. Fantastic organic groups like SHEL is what this company is about. Great pop/rock groups like Saucy Monky and amazing artists like Dom La Nena. And, there is no way I can forget to mention the fabulous Lianne La Havas.... Sorry I can't think of any male artists or groups to plug at this moment. Perhaps this was the year of the great female artists!

The history of Blind Faith, that featured Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Rick Grech, is a quick story. The group only released one record in 1969, and the group's self titled record shot to #1 in the U.S. airplay charts in August 1969, achieving platinum sales status, also hit #1 on the U.K. airplay charts in September of that year and achieved Gold sales status there.

The original cover, featured above, was banned in some countries and created a bit of social outrage in some corners, which did not hurt sales and made it more collectable when the record labels made changes to circumvent the bans.
